Homestays in Kerala can get “Responsible Tourism Mission” (RT) partner approval from the Kerala Tourism department. The RT approval would be provided to those homestays who strictly follow the vision and norms of the heritage-oriented hospitality initiative.
Homestays in Kerala, as per this initiative would be classified as “platinum, gold and silver categories,”
There are a number of requirements for a homestay owner. They have, for instance, “create a milieu for the guests to experience local cuisine, art and life in their full essence”.
In addition to that, the “guest/s must get the feel of participation in the family during their stay. Apart from ensuring the guest’s safety and security, the homestay owners should encourage the guests to give their feedback without bothering about the nature of comments.” According to Kerala tourism authorities, homestays play a key role in the current scenario of tourism as tourists increasingly prefer enjoying a unique experience of local life to a conventional accommodation facility.
