A new Aviva survey reveals that an impressive 89% of UK small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are optimistic about expanding their businesses in 2025. This confidence is fueled by strong ties to their local communities, which 75% of SMEs credit as a key factor in their success. Local talent emerges as a game-changer, with 91% highlighting its critical role in future growth and 82% of ambitious SMEs planning to ramp up hiring next year.

A recent survey by Aviva reveals significant optimism among UK small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with 89% of respondents expressing confidence in their ability to grow in 2025. This optimism is deeply tied to strong community connections, as 75% of SMEs attribute a substantial part of their success to local support.

Local talent remains crucial to this growth, with 91% of SMEs highlighting its importance for future expansion. Among those focused on growth, 82% plan to increase hiring in the coming year. However, a notable skills gap presents a challenge, particularly in sectors like manufacturing, hospitality, and financial services, where access to adequately skilled workers is a concern. Only 36% of respondents strongly agree that their communities have the necessary skilled labor to meet their needs.

Infrastructure also plays a critical role in SME growth, with 63% of businesses identifying transport improvements as essential for expansion. Among the priorities highlighted are sustainable transport options, including electric vehicle charging points and cycle lanes, which SMEs see as vital for creating a conducive environment for growth.

Despite challenges such as skills shortages and infrastructure gaps, the survey underscores the determination of SMEs to adapt and overcome hurdles. These businesses remain central to driving economic stability and local prosperity, reinforcing their role as a cornerstone of the UK economy. For more details; Survey
