Doha, November 20, 2024 — The Arab region’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) received a significant boost as the 2024 Arab SMEs Summit and Rowad Entrepreneurship Conference wrapped up in Doha. The three-day event, held under the patronage of Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, ended with over $300 million in commitments announced to accelerate SME growth and innovation.
Co-organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and Qatar Development Bank (QDB), the summit attracted more than 5,000 participants, including entrepreneurs, policymakers, investors, and business leaders. Themed “Navigating Digital Horizons,” the event underscored the transformative power of digitalization, sustainable practices, and collaborative partnerships to shape the future of SMEs.
Bold Commitments to Empower SMEs
ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti revealed several groundbreaking initiatives during the closing ceremony. The announced measures are designed to support SMEs in overcoming challenges and tapping into emerging opportunities:
- Financial Support: Over $300 million will be allocated to help SMEs expand, particularly in green technology and digital entrepreneurship.
- Digitization Drive: Plans to digitize 200 traditional businesses will provide them with access to e-commerce platforms, opening doors to new markets and opportunities.
- Capacity Building: More than 2,000 startups will benefit from tailored training programs focusing on sustainability and green innovation.
- Creative Market Expansion: ESCWA’s Arab Creativity Market platform, which supports 1,000 businesses, is set to expand to include 1,500 enterprises next year, fostering innovation in traditional crafts and cutting-edge technologies.
“SMEs are the backbone of our economies, and their strength lies in innovation and adaptability,” said Dashti. “Entrepreneurs must believe in their ability to create meaningful change and drive a more inclusive future for the Arab region.”

The summit’s awards ceremony highlighted the best of Arab entrepreneurship, recognizing businesses across five categories for their outstanding contributions:
- Emerging Digital Technologies: Winners included “Snoonu” from Qatar and “CODED” from Kuwait.
- Excellence in E-Commerce: Honored “Playbook” (Bahrain), “Baykron DMCC” (UAE), and “My Tindy” (Morocco).
- Inclusive Future for All: Recognized “Cure Bionics” (Tunisia), “Access Life” (Egypt), and “Ynmo” (Saudi Arabia) for driving inclusivity through innovative solutions.
- Green Excellence: Awarded to “YY ReGen” (Lebanon) and “Enbat Holding” (Qatar) for advancing environmental sustainability.
- Social Innovation: Winners included “Lenabtaker” (Jordan) and “Tanafos” (Saudi Arabia) for tackling pressing social challenges.
A Platform for Growth
The summit served as a hub for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and capacity building, offering a packed agenda of activities aimed at empowering SMEs. Highlights included:
- Workshops and Training: More than 1,400 attendees participated in sessions on digital transformation, green technologies, and internationalization.
- Mentorship: Over 100 entrepreneurs received personalized guidance from seasoned industry leaders.
- Networking Opportunities: B2B matchmaking zones facilitated connections between SMEs, investors, and ecosystem enablers, paving the way for future partnerships.
- Showcasing Innovation: Exhibitions provided a platform for SMEs to demonstrate their groundbreaking solutions, with over 150 organizations presenting business opportunities.
