In a region boasting more than 40 operational freezones and close to 100 across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the emergence of this strategic alliance underscores the pivotal role that freezones play in propelling the growth and prosperity of SMEs.

Meydan Free Zone of UAE and Aramex forged an alliance

Meydan Free Zone of United Arab Emirates(UAE) and Aramex agreed to forge a  partnership that  promises to provide SMEs with unprecedented opportunities for success and contribute to the sustainable economic growth of the region.

Meydan Free Zone, a leading free zone of Dubai, UAE,  which is known to be  a “24/7 digital free zone” has teamed up with Aramex, a renowned logistics and transportation solutions provider, in a transformative alliance that aims to revolutionize the SME landscape in Dubai. 

Under the recently inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Meydan Free Zone and Aramex, the two entities will combine their expertise to enrich the array of services available to businesses. This collaboration will encompass various vital services offered by Meydan Free Zone, including logistics, financial solutions, regulatory support, and cutting-edge marketplace infrastructure. SME clients will have access to a comprehensive suite of solutions, spanning company formation, instant bank account setup, visa facilitation, customs codes acquisition, import-export services, e-commerce and marketplace facilitation, and seamless digital payment gateways. Aramex, with its extensive portfolio encompassing domestic and international express services, freight forwarding, logistics and supply chain solutions, and bespoke e-commerce services, will work hand in hand with Meydan Free Zone to provide unparalleled support to SMEs.

Meydan Digital Free Zone  ecosystem nurtures connectivity and innovation, offering a diverse array of over 3500 business activities, empowering entrepreneurs and innovators to thrive and take the lead.

Free Zones and SMEs: why are the relevant?

Freezones play a crucial and highly relevant role for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in numerous ways. These zones provide an ideal environment for SMEs to prosper, offering a plethora of benefits, including streamlined setup procedures, tax advantages, market accessibility, and specialized infrastructure. They serve as a cornerstone in nurturing the growth and prosperity of SMEs across diverse industries.

In the United Arab Emirates alone, there are reported to be more than 40 freezones (Source: FreeZone Investors Guide, UAE; Ministry of Economy, UAE). When considering the GCC countries collectively, there are nearly 100 freezones in operation. On April 14, 2023, the Saudi government announced the establishment of four new Special Economic Zones (SEZs) spanning various regions of the country. These emerging SEZs are poised to provide enticing incentives for businesses that choose to invest within their domains, further bolstering the appeal and opportunities offered by such zones.
