Growth in Service Sector Boosts Trade within the Eurasian Economic Union

Posted on 26 April 202426 April 2024 By Editor No Comments on Growth in Service Sector Boosts Trade within the Eurasian Economic Union

In the dynamic landscape of international trade, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has witnessed significant growth in the turnover of services among its member countries. Recent data reveals a notable surge in the turnover of services in 2023 compared to the preceding year, signifying a positive trend in economic activity within the region.

According to the latest statistics, the majority of EAEU member states experienced an upsurge in international trade in services in 2023. Particularly noteworthy is the remarkable 33.6% increase in the positive balance of trade in services in Armenia, underscoring the strengthening of its service sector. Conversely, Belarus witnessed a decrease of 32.7% in its positive balance of trade in services, highlighting a potential area for further exploration and improvement.

Delving into the structure of exports and imports of services, it becomes evident that transport services and travel constitute the predominant shares in most member states’ trade portfolios. In Kazakhstan, transport services accounted for up to 49% of the total, showcasing the nation’s pivotal role in facilitating the movement of goods and people within the union. Similarly, Kyrgyzstan saw travel services comprising up to 56% of its trade in services, reflecting the importance of tourism and hospitality within its economy.

At the heart of the EAEU’s regulatory framework stands the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), serving as the permanent regulatory body entrusted with overseeing the union’s economic policies and initiatives. Established on February 2, 2012, the EEC has played a crucial role in facilitating cooperation, streamlining regulations, and fostering economic integration among member states.

The growth in the turnover of services within the EAEU underscores the region’s evolving economic landscape and the increasing interconnectedness of its member economies. By leveraging the strengths of each member state and promoting collaboration in key sectors such as transportation, tourism, and other service industries, the EAEU is poised to further enhance its position on the global economic stage.

Looking ahead, continued efforts to promote trade facilitation, harmonize regulations, and address any disparities among member states will be essential to sustain this positive momentum and unlock the full potential of the Eurasian Economic Union. With a shared commitment to economic cooperation and development, the EAEU remains poised to navigate the complexities of the global economy and emerge as a formidable force in the years to come.
