New Delhi, December 9, 2024 – Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, highlighted the transformative impact of Digital India during a press conference on digital infrastructure and connectivity. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has emerged as a global leader in digital innovation and governance.
Launched in 2015, the Digital India program aims to establish a knowledge-based economy and digitally empowered society by ensuring accessibility, inclusion, and efficient digital services. Shri Singh noted that initiatives such as UPI, DigiLocker, and CoWIN have simplified everyday tasks and brought transparency, directly benefiting 1.4 billion citizens.
He lauded UPI’s international success, now operational in seven countries, including France, marking its European debut. This milestone reflects India’s leadership in digital payments, enabling seamless transactions for Indian businesses and consumers abroad.
Shri Singh also spotlighted environmental governance reforms through digital platforms like Parivesh, which have streamlined clearance processes, making them faster, simpler, and transparent.
India’s digital revolution, Shri Singh remarked, has not only curbed corruption by eliminating middlemen but has also empowered rural communities with internet access, fostering inclusive development. Recognizing India’s digital strides, several countries have signed agreements to adopt its Digital Payment Infrastructure (DPI), reinforcing India’s position as a thought leader in global digital transformation.
